I have some potentially good news. A handful of NPR member stations in Illinois are considering picking up Voice of the Wild to run on their airwaves. Nothing has been finalized yet – and it could all amount to nothing, but since i’m working with one station already and have already talked to a few others, I think things will probably work out with at least one.
So what does this mean for the podcast? Well, for now, episodes will, on average, be a bit shorter than they used to be. They’ll have a different intro and outro, and they’ll no longer have the segment where I say the scientific name and taxonomic family. This is because, if it is going to air on the radio, episodes have to be a consistent length and the length that makes sense for Voice of the Wild is two minutes, so I have to make some cuts. I’m converting to this shorter format starting Friday. I’ll also be uploading new two-minute versions of some older episodes, particularly the ones from the beginning of last year when I hadn’t quite figured out how to to edit audio properly. I won’t post these as new episodes or anything, but I will mention any new uploads in the newsletter - which if you aren’t subscribed, please do so; there is a link in the description.
And don’t forget to get outdoors this week. The wildflowers are blooming, insects are emerging, and Bird Migration is going strong - in fact, i’ll be on vacation for part of this week so I can participate in the Illinois Spring bird count and so I and my friends can go to parks and admire all those beautiful native wildflowers and hear all those marvelous migrating warblers.
Best of luck on your own outdoor adventures and Thank you for listening.
